Chemical Peeling

What Is Chemical Peeling?

Chemical peeling is a treatment that applies an acid-containing solution to the skin and removes old keratin to promote the skin’s turnover. By normalizing the skin’s metabolism, improvement in acne, acne scars, blackheads in the pores, dullness, and roughness can be expected.

Also, by removing excess keratin and sebum, it improves the penetration of topical medications and skincare products. The treatment itself finishes in a short time, and repeating it leads to smoother, clearer skin.

Chemical Peeling Is Recommended For

  • Those concerned about acne or acne scars
  • Those who want to improve blackheads or enlarged pores
  • Those who want to improve dullness or roughness of the skin
  • Those bothered by oily shine from excess sebum secretion
  • Those who want their makeup to go on better
  • Those who want to enhance the effect of their skincare products

The Chemical Peeling Solution

Typically, salicylic acid in macrogol and glycolic acid are used. Our clinic uses salicylic acid in macrogol, which is low in irritation to the skin and has a high safety profile.

The Chemical Peeling Treatment Process

STEP 1: Examination and signing the consent form

For those who have not yet had a preliminary examination, the doctor first checks the condition of the skin and determines whether the treatment is appropriate. We may also suggest other treatment methods. After explaining the side effects and so on, we have you sign an electronic consent form.

STEP 2: Cleansing and preparation

If you are wearing basic cosmetics, we will show you to the powder room. We have you thoroughly remove the sebum. After getting your skin clean, we begin the treatment.

STEP 3: Applying the solution

We lightly work the peeling solution into a few spots, then apply it firmly over the whole face. We wait about five minutes for the solution to penetrate.

STEP 4: Wiping off the solution

We gently wipe off the peeling solution with gauze.

STEP 5: Cleansing

For the face, we have you rinse with water.

STEP 6: Moisturizing

We apply COSMETICA RIVIERA’s original vitamin C lotion, VC Serum Limone. We have you take some in your hand and pat it in yourself until the sticky feeling is gone. (You can also purchase it if you wish.)

STEP 7: Post-treatment guidance

We check the condition of your skin after treatment and explain precautions for daily life and the timing of your next treatment. We also welcome consultations about skincare products.

Risks and Side Effects of Chemical Peeling

Discomfort during treatment

When the solution is applied, you may feel a tingling sensation or a hot feeling, but in most cases it subsides within a few minutes.

About downtime

Redness, dryness, and peeling may appear temporarily after treatment. Those with sensitive skin in particular should take care, but it settles in a few days with thorough moisturizing.

Those who cannot receive chemical peeling

Those with a salicylic acid allergy or aspirin-induced asthma cannot receive the treatment.

The Difference from a Massage Peel

Both are classified as peeling, but they act on different layers.

  • Chemical peeling: acts on the epidermis and regulates turnover by removing keratin. Its main purpose is to improve acne, pores, and dullness.
  • Massage peel: acts on the dermis and promotes collagen production. Its main purpose is aging care, such as firmness, glow, and improving sagging.

We will propose the appropriate treatment according to your symptoms and wishes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Peeling (FAQ)

Q: Can it be done on any skin type?

A: Basically, it can be used by many people, but depending on the condition of your skin we may hold off on the treatment. At the time of examination, the doctor checks the condition of your skin and determines whether it is appropriate.

Q: Can redness appear after treatment?

A: Due to the action of the solution, you may feel redness or slight warmth immediately after treatment. Most settles within a few hours to the next day, but if symptoms that bother you persist, please consult us.

Q: When can I wear makeup?

A: If there is no redness or stinging, you can wear makeup the same day. If you have irritation after treatment, please consult us.

Q: How often should I come in?

A: We generally recommend about once a month, but when the goal is to prevent acne, every two weeks may be more effective.

Q: Can it be combined with other treatments?

A: For the Mesona-J and botox injections, same-day treatment is possible. Other treatments are generally possible from about four weeks later, though depending on the condition of your skin, two to three weeks may also be possible.
